This division manufactures in excess of 4 billion two-piece aluminum cans per year at its Golden, Colorado facilities for use in the packaging of Coors' beers. They used 1,1,1 TCA for many years to clean oils from machinery, floors, tools, ink from printers, etc. The development of a replacement cleaner/degreaser was started by the technical staff in the Chemical R&D group. The objective was to find a product that cleaned as well as, or better than, 1, 1, 1 TCA. The product under consideration was to be biodegradable and safe to workers and the environment. This meant the product should not contain chlorinated solvents, petroleum products, acids, caustics, or other hazardous chemicals. After one year of searching, developing, lab testing and field evaluations, the first product, "Alpha-Bio T," was developed. Later the product was renamed "Bio T," only to be renamed"Bio T 200," and then finally "Bio T Max." This new "Alpha-Bio T" product formulation met all the objective criteria required of an environmentally friendly and worker safe product.
